Web-Based Training Courses Available

In 2008 OSBIE completed a pilot project to test a web-based on-line training facility. We are pleased with the results of the project and are pleased to offer this facility to OSBIE members who are in search of on-line training programs related to Health& Safety, Fleet safety and Operational risk management. The following provides an overview of the on-line training facility, which will be accessible through the OSBIE web-site by year-end – watch for further information!

Training content

Course content is designed with the Adult learner in mind and is therefore structured to ensure maximum knowledge retention. In view of this, each course includes multiple study exercises in each Lesson. Most courses consist of approximately 10 Lessons and take on average 30-45 minutes to complete. When the student successfully completes the assigned Lessons a final multiple choice examination is required to be completed before the system will generate a Student certificate. Navigation within the courseware is designed to ensure minimal computer knowledge is required. A simple click of the “Next” or “Back” button will move the student through the course lessons.

During the OSBIE online training pilot, popular courses taken by participants included: Risk Assessment Analysis, Fire Prevention Safety, Incident Investigation, Slips Trips and Falls Prevention, Building Evacuation and Emergencies, Electrical Safety, Disaster Preparedness, General First Aid, Driving Safety and Asbestos Awareness. The OSBIE online training library has much more to assist you in improving school safety and mitigating your risk. To find out more about the diverse training library available to you, please visit http://www.medteqsolutions.ca/53/index.html

The Platform

The system is Web based so no software is required to be downloaded. This means that even with a restrictive IT policy, you can use the system easily without computer hardware/software re-configuration. Additionally, you can access the training from anywhere the internet is available via a computer browser.

As a representative of a School Board responsible for a group of employees, you also have the ability to run reports on who has completed training, who is overdue or incomplete etc. This ensures that you know what training has taken place as well as the passing grade.

Cost

OSBIE members receive a preferred rate of $180.00 per User/year for unlimited access to the entire course library.

Conclusion

Web based training enables the delivery of theoretical components of education in ways that are measurable, verifiable and transferable, and which complement the practical components for a more worthwhile and educationally viable training experience.
