Automobile Insurance

Automobile insurance is provided through a standard Owner’s Policy on a fleet basis to school boards to cover vehicles owned by school boards or leased (over 30 days) to school boards.

A standard automobile policy provides coverage for liability, accident benefits, and physical damage of the vehicle.

Optional Endorsements:

The board also has an option to purchase the following endorsements at an additional premium:

OPCF 27 – Legal Liability for Damage to Non-Owned Automobile(s)

If the board rents an automobile for less than 30 days, this endorsement provides primary third-party liability coverage from the boards automobile policy. In order for this coverage to apply the automobile must be rented in the name of the board.

OPCF 20 – Loss of Use

In the event a vehicle insured under the boards automobile policy has been disabled due to an insurable claim under the automobile policy (regardless of fault), this endorsement will reimburse the board up to a maximum of $2,000 for the cost of renting a replacement vehicle or alternate transportation.

OPCF 43 – Waiver of Depreciation

When the board leases or purchases a brand-new vehicle, they have the option to purchase the Waiver of Depreciation endorsement. This endorsement provides the board full replacement cost of the vehicle in the event the vehicle is written off within the first 24 months from when the vehicle is delivered to the board.

Newly-acquired automobiles

Newly acquired automobiles are automatically covered under OSBIE’s policy if the following conditions are met:

  1. The board must have acquired the vehicle (i.e. taken delivery or ownership).
  2. The vehicle must be registered in the name of the school board.
  3. The board must notify OSBIE within 14 days of the vehicle acquisition date.

Additions, deletions and changes to leased vehicles should be reported to OSBIE through the OSBIE portal.
